Disney Family Halloween Costumes: Villain Costumes DIY

It’s good to be bad, especially when planning your Disney family Halloween costumes. Last year for Mickey’s Not So Scary, my family had so much fun dressing as classic Disney Villains. There are lots of villainous characters to choose from: Hades, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil, Ursula, Maleficent, Queen of Hearts are just a few favorites.

For the Disney family Halloween costumes shown below, Hades wore a blue tee shirt. We cut the neck out of to make it more dramatic and painted with puff paint. The black gauze is from the Dollar Tree.

Finally, we added white powder, black eye shadow and blue hair spray to complete the look.

Ursula used an old white wig I had on hand. The necklace was made with a shell from Hobby Lobby. The tentacles are foam pool noodles stuffed into black socks with bubble wrap spray painted purple.

For Cruella, I found the striped jumpsuit at Wal-Mart. I purchase a cheap wig, a white fur Christmas tree skirt and red gloves. The Evil Queen costume was purchased here.

Lastly, I added a few modifications including a belt, jewel for the chest and a crown made of craft foam.

Cars Halloween Costumes for Toddlers

Hocus Pocus DIY Costume for Halloween

One of my favorite Halloween movies is Hocus Pocus. My daughter insisted on being ‘witches’ for Halloween and it was impossible to find small kid sized costumes for the infamous Sanderson Sisters. After a lot of searching, I finally decided to make the Hocus Pocus costume designs myself. These Halloween costumes were surprising easy to throw together.

Most of the fabric was found in the clearance bin at Hobby Lobby. My costume was a plain green dress from Amazon. I also sewed this green costume velvet cape and added iron on glitter vinyl shapes cut on my Cricut.

I had striped tights just laying around. Lastly, we topped it off with fun make-up and hair color spray. If you love Hocus Pocus, these Hocus Pocus DIY costume ideas are perfect for your family this Halloween.

If you don’t want to sew yourself, check out these ready to wear Hocus Pocus costumes for the family.

Nightmare Before Christmas Costumes

If you’re looking for Disney Family Halloween Costumes, Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween classic. The Sally costume was purchased at Party City. I found this Jack Skellington tee shirt at Walmart for only $10.

Next, I purchased long white gloves from Party City (which aren’t pictured). I also wore a striped jumpsuit (the one from the Cruella costume above) to get the striped pants look.

Finally, I made the Zero costume for my toddler. I used some scrap white fabric and craft foam/pipe cleaners glued around a headband. My daughter insisted we spray her hair burgundy to match Sally’s.

Lastly, we drew on our stitch smiles with eye liner, and were ready to celebrate at a local Halloween party.

DIY Haunted Mansion Costume Idea

My daughters REALLY wanted to dress as Haunted Mansion for Halloween 2020 so we worked together to make costumes for the whole family. My oldest daughter dressed as Constance Hatchaway, also known as The Black Widow Bride from Haunted Mansion.

I ordered this lace white dress on Amazon, found a wedding veil on clearance at Hobby Lobby and completed the look with spooky make-up and an ax from the Dollar Tree.

Haunted Mansion DIY Halloween Family Costume

My middle daughter wanted to be the Tightrope Walker from Haunted Mansion. This dress was AMAZINGLY soft and comfortable. She’s worn it dozens of times since!

I found this cute pink umbrella on Amazon, added ribbon to a pair of pink shoes she already owned and sewed a super quick caplet with scrap clearance fabric from a local craft store.

My husband and youngest daughter dressed as ghosts so they dressed in all white. Then, I created a “hat” from white craft foam and added fur for the sideburns.

Finally, my costume as the Madame Leota tombstone was made from cardboard and puffy paint. I cut out an oval for my face and added handles to the back to make it easier to hold.

Haunted Mansion DIY Halloween Family Costume

Ratatouille Disney Family Halloween Costume DIY

We made “rats” inspired by the Pixar and Disney Movie Ratatouille. I created these from cardboard boxes, craft foam, and cardstock. I even found some fun tube fidgets to create long tails for the back. And of course the Remy box needed a chef hat.

These were super easy and fun to make. They would be a perfect unique Halloween costume idea.
