How to Celebrate the Holidays at Universal Orlando

There is something so special about Universal Orlando at Christmas. The parks feel extra magical with twinkling lights, music, and all the festive shows. My girls were in heaven the entire time, and honestly so was I.

If you are planning a holiday trip, here are the three things we loved most and the tips I would share with any friend before they go.

Breakfast with the Grinch and Friends

This was such a highlight of our trip. The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast takes place at Circus McGurkus Cafe in Seuss Landing. The restaurant is already fun and colorful, but during the holidays it is even better.

The breakfast is super yummy with options like green eggs and ham, pancakes, waffles and pastries. They also serve Christmas cookies for dessert. Holiday Whos stop by the table for photos and delightful conversation while you eat. And then of course you get a private time to meet the Grinch, which beats waiting for hours in a standby queue. He is exactly as sassy as you would hope.

We’ve actually been to this experience twice and loved it both times. I booked this breakfast months in advance and I am so glad I did. It does sell out really quick!

Grinchmas Who‑liday Spectacular

After breakfast we headed to see the Grinchmas Who‑liday Spectacular. This show feels like you stepped into the pages of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Whos are so fun and full of energy, and the Grinch is hilarious.

The show lasts about 30 minutes and it was such a nice break from walking around the park. If you can, go earlier in the day because shows later in the afternoon can get crowded.

Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s

In the evening we staked out a spot for Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s. It is full of giant balloons (just like in NYC!), floats with favorite characters like Shrek and the Minions, and even Santa himself.

We found a spot about 40 minutes early and I am so glad we did. The kids were able to sit on the curb and have a perfect view. Santa lights the huge Christmas tree at the end and it really feels like a Hallmark movie moment. Make sure to sit somewhere between the Christmas tree and the Mummy because snow comes down from the rooftops but ONLY in this area not along the rest of the parade route.

Mom Tips

  • Book the Grinch breakfast early. It is one of the first things to fill up!
  • Go to the show when you need a break. It is indoors and perfect for resting little feet.
  • Find your parade spot early. The best places are by the Christmas tree or in front of the Mummy ride.

Final Thoughts

If you are on the fence about visiting Universal Orlando during the holidays, do it. Between eating breakfast with the Grinch, singing along at the Grinchmas show, and watching the Macy’s parade under twinkling lights, it is a trip my kids will remember forever.
