True and the Rainbow Kingdom Birthday Party Ideas & Free Printables
Are you searching for True and the Rainbow Kingdom Birthday Party Ideas? My daughter’s favorite show is True and the Rainbow Kingdom. This Netflix show has several seasons and follows the adventures of True and her cat friend, Bartleby, on their many adventures through the colorful and magical Rainbow Kingdom. When I asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted, the only answer she’d give is “True”!

As a birthday party planner, I knew I had to make this unique party theme happen. While there are several seasons on Netflix, merchandise for the show is extremely lacking. There are not any toys, or party supplies readily available for purchase. So, I spent a lot of time carefully planning out this party. If you’re in the same boat, here are my True and the Rainbow Kingdom birthday party ideas and free printables from my daughter’s second birthday.
True and the Rainbow Kingdom Birthday Party Decor DIY
Ultimately, the best way to plan a True birthday party is to pull together lots of vibrant colors to mimic the world of the Rainbow Kingdom. I used lots of colors for the backdrop. The flowers are from Hobby Lobby. The polka dot banner across the front was made from napkins (from Walmart) that I cut and glued to a ribbon. Finally, the table runner is a combination of this hot pink sequin runner and a small 1 ft wide strip of astroturf from The Home Depot. I used this fake grass during my oldest daughter’s Alice in ONEderland themed first birthday tea party.
I had a few additional things in mind that I really wanted to incorporate based on the show. Here are a few short tutorials on how to make the Rainbow Kingdom trees and Cumulo cloud hanging in the center.
Making Trees from Rainbow Kingdom
First, I wanted to make the trees that are seen throughout the forest. These trees have purple and white striped trunks and lush green tops. I was able to find all of the supplies to make the trees at the Dollar Tree. First, I started with two purple foam pool noodles. I cut both into two pieces so I would have one tree larger than the other. Next, I used white athletes tape to make the lines for the stripe effect. Finally, I hot glued large green tissue pom poms to the the tops. I zip tied them to the table legs to get the trees to stand tall on either side of our food table.
How to Make a Cumulo Cloud from True
Another important element for our True Birthday party decor is this fun Cumulo cloud. Cumulo is always quick to come to True when she says her name. She doesn’t hesitate to bring True wherever she needs to, though it’s usually to The Wishing Tree.
This cloud is created using white foam board. I also used a foam sheet (used as quilt padding) for the fluffy texture. The shape is comprised of three overlapping circles. I used two sizes of mixing bowls to trace the circles before cutting out the shape using a razor knife.
Next, I covered the foam board shape in the quilt padding and used a mixture of spray adhesive and hot glue to affix it to the board. I created this file (download here) and printed it for the eyes and mouth on cardstock. I cut the shapes out and glued them on where appropriate. Lastly, I added the pink rosy cheeks using a cotton ball and my own blush make-up.
True and the Rainbow Kingdom Party Food Ideas
As my daughter watched episodes of True, I kept notes on my phone anytime they mentioned a food item. I used this list as inspiration for our menu at the birthday party. Here is a list of what we served:
- Bartleby’s Fishy Poof Crackers (pink princess Goldfish)
- Nummelberries (grapes, strawberries and blueberries)
- Wishes (yellow coated chocolate candies)
- Nibbles & Sips (Chips & Salsa and Mini Water Bottles)
We also served Hamburgers and hotdogs, mac and cheese, salad and had lemonade and sweet tea for guests to enjoy. Those didn’t have cutesy themed names.
True and the Rainbow Kingdom Party Cake & Cupcakes
In True’s Birthday episode, Griselda makes a “Nummelberry cake with Bubble Chew icing” but in the end it explodes into cupcakes. I used this as inspiration to make birthday cupcakes for my daughter’s party. I mixed one vanilla and one strawberry cake mix together. The icing is buttercream from Publix that I mixed blue and a little green food coloring into. The cupcakes are topped with little candy sprinkles to resemble the cupcakes from the show.
