Your Ultimate Family-Friendly Guide to Enjoying THE PLAYERS Championship with Kids
Hey there, fellow moms! Are you ready to introduce your kiddos to the excitement of THE PLAYERS Championship? There’s nothing quite like sharing the joy of golf with your little ones under the sunny skies of Ponte Vedra Beach in Northeast Florida. My girls absolutely love attending THE PLAYERS at TPC Sawgrass and look forward to it every year.
In this guide, I’ll share my top tips for making your family visit to THE PLAYERS a hole-in-one! If you’re planning a visit just for the tournament, check out all the free and cheap things with little kids in St Augustine’s historic district less than 30 mins from the tournament.
Preparing for Your Visit to THE PLAYERS Championship
First things first, let’s talk logistics. Grab your tickets and parking passes early because no one likes last-minute scrambles, especially with tots in tow. Remember, kiddos under 15 can receive free admission with a ticketed adult, which is fantastic. They allow two children per paying adult. Also, even though clear bags are the norm, diaper bags and strollers are welcome, so you can bring all your little one’s essentials.
Typically, the bag policy is: Opaque bags measuring 6x6x6 inches and smaller or clear bags 12x6x12 inches and smaller are allowed inside the course grounds. Empty water bottles are also permitted.
Many moms may wonder, are strollers allowed at the Players Championship? Absolutely! Strollers, small diaper bags, plastic baby bottles and other essential baby supplies are permitted on the grounds during tournament week. But keep in mind that the baby must be with the carrier and all items are subject to search. The golf course is large, so you will definitely want a stroller for little ones if you plan to visit THE PLAYERS.
Tuesday is always Military Appreciation Day which allows free entry for any Active Duty military members including National Guard Members and special Veteran tickets. There is also a concert Tuesday evening and the event kickoff at THE PLAYERS stadium course which includes the National Anthem and a flyover which is a pretty cool experience.
Parking at THE PLAYERS PGA Championship
Be aware that parking at THE PLAYERS can be a little difficult. The best option is to park with a parking pass near the entrance. There are other lots in surrounding areas that provide free shuttle services but with kids (and a stroller) this makes travel time longer and can be more frustrating to fold up your stroller to travel the extra distance. There are not public spaces available for parking and many area businesses do not permit parking during TPC so purchasing a parking pass is the best option.
The Kids Zone by Nemours Children’s Health
This is the place where little putters can swing to their heart’s content. The Kids Zone presented by Nemours Children’s Health is a wonderland of video games and mini-golf, perfect for tiny hands. And let’s talk swag—there are so many fun freebies that your kids will adore! This year they gave out kid sized sunglasses, a free autograph book, pens and slap bracelets. There are also photo op areas and giveaways in this air conditioned oasis perfect for entertaining little ones.
There are also several golf simulators and activities hosted by First Tee – North Florida like a fun recreation of the 17th hole to test your golfing skills. This is a great area for the entire family, but especially older kids to enjoy.
Family Dining Options at TPC Sawgrass
All that fun is bound to work up an appetite! Whether your little ones are craving the sweetness of Mini Bar Donuts or the cheesy goodness of V Pizza, there’s something for every tiny taste bud. There are several upscale food options and even signature cocktails at many of the bar-style seating areas, like Top Dawg Tavern, if parents want to grab a drink. The Food Court near the entrance boasts several casual dining options like Firehouse Subs. Many food spots are spread out throughout the golf course so download the PGA Tour app for an interactive map or check one of the many map locations posted around the grounds to see what is available.
Palm Valley Village Hosted by Bubba Burger
Need a break from the golf action? Head over to Palm Valley Village. It’s a family oasis where you can indulge in a game of life-sized checkers or watch your kids play on tables just their size. BUBBA Burger knows how to create a perfect family hangout spot with all the kid-friendly food too.
Can you bring your own food? Yes! The official outside food policy states that The Players allows fans to bring in their own food in a 1-gallon clear, plastic bag where food items are also wrapped in clear wrap. This is a cost-effective way to save money if you don’t want to purchase food on site.
What to Wear to THE PLAYERS Championship
Female spectators tend to wear comfortable tennis sneakers with shorts, skorts, or a sundress. To keep comfortable on the course, they’ll also wear wide-edged hats, visors, or sunglasses. Some things to avoid at all costs are graphic tees, tube tops or strapless garments, Spandex, jeans, heels, or flip-flops. While it is stated that Denim, T-shirts, tank tops, short-shorts and other overly casual attire should not be worn, many spectators will wear such apparel and are not turned away.
My girls always wear cute sundresses, comfy shirts with shorts, or rompers and good walking shoes. Hat and sunglasses are definitely a must!
Amenities for the Tiniest Guests
Moms, you’ll appreciate this—THE PLAYERS has thought of everything. Need to change a diaper or find a quiet spot to nurse? No problem. The Family Lounge offers fully stocked changing stations (with wipes, diapers and pull ups) and private areas for nursing, complete with bottled water to keep you hydrated, you’re all set for a carefree day with your baby.
Enjoying the Tournament
Of course, you’re here for the golf! You can bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on. Find a spot where your little ones can watch the pros and maybe even learn a thing or two. Be sure to check out the kid only autograph zones frequently visited by PGA Tour Players. Don’t forget to snap some photos; these are moments you’ll want to remember. Also, plan to visit the PGA Tour Fan Shop for exclusive merchandise.
