Girly Harry Potter Birthday Party Ideas + Free Printables

The Harry Potter franchise has a special place in my heart. I remember standing in line for midnight premieres for both the books and movies. I was 11 when the first book came out, so you could say I grew up with Harry Potter. They’re some of my favorite books and movies, thus you can imagine my excitement when I had the opportunity to plan a Harry Potter themed birthday party. Here are my girly Harry Potter Birthday Party ideas and a ton of free printables to make your party a success.

Harry Potter Birthday Party Decorations DIY

For this specific party, we took inspiration from the four Hogwarts houses. Mixing in some black and a whole lot of sparkle (shop this gold sequin tablecloth) really set off the design. I used stacks of books on the table for decor because that’s really a focal point for the whole party.  The food made the perfect centerpiece since it was all themed to Harry Potter as well. These plates make a great addition to the table.

Harry Potter Birthday Party Food Ideas

It was so much fun planning these whimsical Harry Potter birthday party food ideas. The chocolate frogs are made using a frog chocolate mold from Amazon. I made the Honeydukes sign by printing off a logo from a Google search and cutting it to fit one of my existing wood signs. We served regular jellybeans as Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. The Posion Apple Popcorn is white cheddar popcorn sprayed with green food coloring. We also made Snitch Fruit Skewers and Quidditch Sandwiches by including a few goal post cut outs on skewers.

Easy Butterbeer Recipe

You can’t have a Harry Potter birthday party without Butterbeer. This easy Butterbeer recipe only needs four ingredients. We purchased the glass mason jar mugs from the Dollar Tree and included gold straws for a fun and girly touch. First, I scooped a tablespoon of Smuckers Butterscotch into the bottom of each cup. Next, I added a big scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. Then, I poured Cream Soda into the cup filling it up to the top. Lastly, I finished with a swirl of Whipped Heavy Cream. This concoction is delicious and pretty similar to the flavors of what they serve at Universal Studios. See my tips for visiting Universal Orlando with kids here.

Harry Potter Birthday Party Activities

Next to the decor and food, party activities are essential to create an experience for your party guests. First, guests chose and decorated their wand from Ollivanders. I made these ‘wands’ out of wooden dowels and then added designs using hot glue for dimension and detail. The guests selected their wand and then painted them to add some personality.

Harry Potter DIY Edibile Potions

Another one of the Harry Potter party activities that was a huge hit was the DIY edible potion station. The various bottles were collected from thrift stores and the Dollar Tree. I did a simple Google search for potion labels, printed and cut some to tape to the bottles. The vials are from Hobby Lobby. Lacewing Fly is Pixie Sticks, Dragon Horn is crushed rock candy and Boomslang Skin is green flake sprinkles I found at Hobby Lobby.
