Beat the Heat at Epic Universe: 10 Tips to Stay Cool All Day
Epic Universe is magical, exciting, and packed with fun, but let’s be real, Florida heat can wear you down fast. With little shade in the park, staying cool is something you need to plan for.
Here are my top 10 tips to help you and your family stay cool all day, avoid heat exhaustion, and keep the fun going.
1. Dress in Lightweight, Breathable Clothes
Skip heavy fabrics and dark colors. Go for lightweight, moisture-wicking outfits that let your skin breathe. I love an athleisure dress with built-in shorts for park days because it’s comfy, cute, and keeps you cool.

2. Bring a Hat or UV Umbrella
A sun hat or lightweight cap will help keep the sun off your face and shoulders. Add a pair of sunglasses for extra protection. A UV umbrella will give you shade wherever you walk, plus doubles for Florida’s infamous afternoon thunderstorms.
3. Use a Cooling Towel
Cooling towels are lifesavers in the Florida heat. Wet them, snap them, and drape them around your neck or shoulders for an instant cool-down.
4. Pack a Misting Water Bottle
A misting water bottle is fun for kids and practical for adults. A quick spritz on your face or arms feels amazing in the middle of a hot afternoon. We even add ice to the water to keep it extra cold.
5. Visit Indoor Attractions for Breaks
Several rides and shows have indoor, air-conditioned queues or spaces. Good spots include Ministry of Magic: The Battle for the Ministry, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and The Untrainable Dragon show. Plan these during the hottest part of the day.

6. Time Your Splash Pad Visit
The Astronomica splash pad in Celestial Park is perfect for cooling off, but try to visit before mid-afternoon when the crowds get big. Bring a small towel and a change of clothes (plus a swim diaper!) if you have younger kids.
You can also ride Fyre Drill inside the Isle of Berk. The ride is pretty short, but you will get WET.
7. Apply Sunscreen and Reapply Often
Pack a travel-size roll-on or stick sunscreen for easy touch-ups on faces and arms. Reapply every couple of hours, especially if you’re sweating or playing in water.
8. Use a Stroller Fan for Little Ones & Neck Fans for Adults
If you have a toddler, clip a stroller fan to keep them cool during long waits or walks. We also have these neck fans for all my girls (and myself). It makes a huge difference when the afternoon sun hits.
9. Stay Hydrated All Day
Bring a refillable water bottle and fill it up at water stations around the park. Encourage kids to drink regularly, even if they say they’re not thirsty.

10. Take Indoor Meal Breaks
Plan your meals at indoor spots like Toadstool Cafe, Das Stakehaus, or Pizza Moon. Sitting down inside with some AC gives your body time to cool off and recharge. And of course, nothing is better than a frozen Butterbeer on a hot day.

Final Thoughts
With the right gear, smart planning, and plenty of water breaks, you can beat the heat and have an amazing day at Epic Universe.
