Thank you to Disney Parks for providing us with media passes to enjoy the Disney Villains After Hours event. All magically opinions are my own.

I was so excited to receive an invitation to experience Villains After Hours at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. My daughter loves villains and we all had so much frightful fun at this event. Villains After Hours happens on select nights now through August 8, 2019, a separately ticketed, this special nighttime event showcases some of Disney’s favorite villain characters.

Tips for Attending Villains After Hours

Villains After Hours lets a limited number of guests into Disney’s Magic Kingdom for an additional 3 hours after it closes, with low wait times at more than 20 classic attractions, including Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and more. The event also allows guests to access themed food and drinks, special photos, merchandise and shows. Check out my tips for attending below.

Buy Your Ticket in Advance

You can save money by purchasing your event ticket online before the event. Passholders and DVC members also receive a discount. This is also a limited event, so if you want until the night of, it may already be sold out. Be sure to plan ahead and buy your ticket in advance. Arrive Early

Included with your ticket is early admission into Magic Kingdom. You may arrive as early as 7pm. I highly recommend taking advantage of this extra time. If you’re an Annual Passholder, you can book a few late FastPasses+ for favorite attractions. We rode a few of the kiddie rides, met Ariel (since all character interactions close for the event) and played in Dumbo line queue. We also watched my kids’ favorite firework show, Happily Ever After before regular park closure. Eat Dinner Before

With park entry granted at 7pm, there is plenty of time to grab dinner outside of the park before entering. Many of the quick service dining options close at 7pm (or shortly after) so full meal options may be hard to find in the park. I recommend eating beforehand and grabbing a few villain themed snacks during the event (served after 10pm).

Bring a Stroller

If you’re bringing kids, even if they’re a little older, a stroller is essential for an after hours event at Disney. My girls both tend to stay up later. Evie, my older daughter, who is only four, made it until 1am at this event, but fell asleep on the walk back to the car. My littler one (who is only two) was asleep by 10:30pm and slept well in her stroller while we enjoyed the event.

Dress the Part

You won’t see elaborate costumes like at Mickey’s Not So Scary, but you will find tons of guests dressed up in villainous Disneybounds or villain attire. Even though the event takes place at night, Florida is still hot, so dress accordingly to prevent overheating. I found this cute Disney themed Evil Queen shirt for $7 at the Disney Character Warehouse at the Orlando Outlet Mall. I made my daughter’s maleficient shirt and my mom’s “My Favorite Little Disney Villains call me Grammy” shirt using my Cricut. My youngest daughter’s Queen of Hearts dress was ordered on Amazon. Be sure to follow Disney’s dress code and costume guidelines.

Don’t forget rain gear too! It didn’t rain on us but Florida is unpredictable so having a poncho or umbrella handy is always a necessity. Villains Disneybound for DIsney Villains After Hours

Now that I’ve shared my tips for attending, here are my 5 Can’t Miss Experiences at Disney Villains After Hours!

Villains Unite the Night Castle Show

Villains Unite the Night is an all-new, 20-plus minute stage show starring Hades, Meg, The Queen, Maleficent, Jafar and other hilarious hoodlums Cinderella Castle. The show is SPECTACULAR and includes lots of special effects and daring performances. The show takes place at 11pm, 12am and 1am. I highly recommend seeing the middle show as it seemed to be the least crowded. In between shows, there is a high energy dance party with a live DJ. It’s sure to get everyone dancing and into the villain spirit.

Frightfully Fun Food Options

I loved the many themed food options. Ice Cream, Popcorn and Bottled Beverages are included with the ticket price and are regularly accessible throughout the event. They bring out additional food carts to ensure lines are kept to a minimum for these items. There are lots of villain themed foods as well. I tried the Hades Cosmo and Hades Nachos from Tortuga Tavern and loved both. Be sure to check your event guide for a full list of all good and drink options. Here is a list of all the delicious food options available.

  • Dragon’s Breath Float, Storybook Treats – lemon soft-serve and sprite topped with a green cherry and cherry-flavored syrup
  • Intergalactic Noodles, Cool Ship – chilled noodle salad with snap peas, red onion, and sweet garlic chili sauce
  • Yzma’s Llama Potion, Cool Ship – dry ice-infused vessel filled with Strawberry Fanta
  • De Vil’s Treat, Casey’s Corner – brownie topped with black and white icing
  • Headless Horseman Browkie, Liberty Square Popcorn Cart – half-chocolate chip cookie, half-brownie topped with a chocolate piece featuring the Headless Horseman
  • Headless Horseman Novelty Straw, Liberty Square Popcorn Cart
  • Hades Nachos, Tortuga Tavern –black bean nacho chips with “fiery” buffalo chicken and nacho cheese
  • Hades Temptation, Tortuga Tavern – purple frozen mocktail “Cosmo” with lemonade, violet monin syrup, and a gummy worm
  • Dr. Facilier’s Tarot Card Tart, Sleepy Hollow – chocolate tart filled with dark chocolate ganache and topped with peanut butter mousse and a white chocolate tarot card
  • A Drink from The Other Side, Sleepy Hollow – a non-alcoholic Hurricane-like drink themed after one of the most popular drinks in New Orleans
  • Not So Poison Apple Cupcake, Main Street Bakery – a spiced “apple” cupcake with pecan crunch and buttercream
  • Maleficent Cone, Storybook Treats – lime soft-serve topped with chocolate horns and purple sprinkles served in a black waffle cone

Maleficent Dragon at Villains After Hours

The Maleficent dragon who appears in the Festival or Fantasy parade by day, roams free during Villains After Hours. They play heavy metal rock music while the dragon roams which really gives it an added ominous feel. The dragon takes flight three times each night so be sure to grab a good viewing spot along the route marked in the event guide.

Villain Themed PhotoPass & Magic Shots

While there are no villain meet and greet opportunities, there are lots of Magic Shot options. The Maleficent dragon is available in Fantasyland against the castle barrier wall (near the restaurant). The Boogie Man from Nightmare Before Christmas is on the rocks of Tomorrowland, near the Stitch attraction. Scar is available near the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. Lastly, there is a Hades shot and video available near the Mickey statue in front of the castle.

I loved that they had two photographers at each location, this made the line move really quickly. There were lots of other lightning effects and photos ops throughout the park. Be sure to check out the selfie walls in between Dumbo and the Ariel meet and greet. They had special lightning and a Cast Member who was willing to take pictures on your device. Before the sun goes down, grab a few photos on the Purple Wall in Tomorrowland too. That’s our favorite photo spot for great lighting and a pretty background.

A Frightful Farewell

One of my favorite parts of the Villains After Hours Event was the villain characters atop the train station heckling guests as you leave. They rotate characters every few minutes, but you’ll see lots of villains, even a few rare ones! During the 10-15 minutes we stood there, we saw the Queen of Hearts, Bowler Hat Guy, Big Bad Wolf, Captain Hook, Gaston, Cruella, the Ugly Stepsisters and Lady Tremaine. Certain characters have mics, so the interaction is customized for the surrounding audience. It was really fun to have this interaction with the villains and such a great way to leave a fantastic event.
