My brother recently married his princess in North Carolina. The ceremony was pretty small and he wanted to host a reception in St Augustine for all our family and friends to attend. They asked for my help planning the reception and had a really tight budget. It was planned for October, so we went with a “Fall in Love” theme. Here’s how this Fall Themed DIY Thrifty Wedding Reception came together.
Cheap & Easy Decor
My father was able to secure the local Fraternal Order of Police clubhouse. The interior was pretty bland. Streamers are the perfect way to add color on a budget. We hung streamers across the ceiling and as a backdrop behind where the bride and groom sat.
Dollar Tree Decor
The Dollar Tree is my go-to decor store when shopping for a party. I purchased a dozen packs of loose fall leaves along with tons of faux pumpkins. My dad sliced tree trunk pieces for the centerpieces and cake display. We paired them with a fall scented candle and a fall bouquet (also from the Dollar Tree) inside of an old IBC Rootbeer bottle. The fall flowers and gourds were from my moms front porch that we borrowed just for the party.
DIY Wedding Cake & Cupcakes
My aunt made the delicious cake and cupcakes. We styled them on top of tree trunk slices in varying heights. They were topped with Dollar Tree leaves glued to tooth picks and little labels I printed on brown craft paper. My mom found a Groupon to purchase custom printed M&M’s for cheap. We threw in some rock candy, gumballs and chocolates to round out the ‘sweets’ table.
At the end of the day, a party is fun, but it’s all about celebrating the love these two share. I am happy to have gained a new sister and am so glad I could be part of planning their special day.
